Covid19 restrictions are officially part of the younger history. The early summer sun has burned the metalheads while they celebrated the first wave of festivals. You might now think of Metalfest Plzen or much bigger and more mainstream, Rock am Ring and im Park with 85,000 spectators as the first ones to come up. Cut the last two zeros. I’m talking about a much smaller, laid-back festival, the Rock & Metal Day’z at Oschersleben nearby Magdeburg.

Motorsport Arena

Wait! Isn’t Oschersleben well known for the racetrack? Yes, it is! The Motorsport Arena is hosting races of the DTM series, ADAC Masters or Superbike-WC. And the arena is one of the sponsors if not the main sponsor for the Rock & Metal Day’z. The open air festival is located on its camping ground at the north side of the Motorsport Arena.

M.A.DE. for kids

The organizers of the Rock & Metal Day’z is the nonprofit organization M.A.DE. for kids e. V. – “Metalheads aus Deutschland” for kids. The festival aims to collect and donate money for several charity projects. One example is Stiftung Elternhaus which supports children with cancer and their parents. Check both, find out more and support as well!

A Warm Welcome

Back to the festival itself: the arrival is easy, as we are one of the first arrivers to pick up our festival bracelets. Manja Meyer warmly welcomes us. On the way to our camping area, she supplies us with all the details we need. Otherwise Manja hosts the bands during the next three days. But this and all the other members of the crew is another story we will tell you in a second article because they deserve to be highlighted.

Getting Ready

The tent is set up quickly thanks to the help of even earlier arrivers. We grab some food, and have a first pint of beer with some other guys; it seems to very easy to make friends here. Everybody is very open minded as a true metal head always should be. Together we wait for the first band to play.

The running order (to be delayed)
