When the Birmingham-based band Fury performed at Rock & Metal Day’z in June 2025, they told me that their new album had already been produced and that pre-sales would start soon. The time has now come for the final release of Interceptor on 5th September 2025, and I am delighted to review the album. This is their first album to be released with the support of the Danish label Mighty Music Records, and their fifth album overall. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the ten songs.

Interceptor

Interceptor

The title track is also the opening song. Powerful, fast guitar riffs and a catchy melody lead into Julian Jenkins’ vocals. His voice sounds slightly rougher than on the previous album. The song itself stands out thanks to its fresh take on traditional British heavy metal, driven by a dynamic bass line and harmonic double guitars. I don’t think I’m wrong in declaring it a perfect concert opener.

.

What’s it gonna to be?

Nyah Ifill dominates the song as lead singer, combining her bluesy vocals with thunderous drums and a rough guitar riff. The song is slightly slower than the previous one, but nevertheless very catchy in the best Fury tradition.

.

On the Town

We’re getting rough again! Julian takes over again, sharing vocals with Nyah. The chorus is highly infectious and encourages audience participation. This track’s energy will certainly get everyone going.

Don’t lie to me

This time, the song opens with a roaring choir before the guitar, drums and bass kick in. Once again, the vocals are shared between Julian and Nyah, with Julian taking the lead. The chorus and choirs have some very strong hymn-like elements, and I’m not lying when I say that it’s another perfect live song.

.

In Pursuit of Destiny

We all know Destiny’s Child, but that’s a completely different genre and story. The song starts slowly and sounds mysterious, which fits the title perfectly. Then it turns into something powerful – should I really call it that? – ballad with strong guitar work. Listen to the small details that Tom Atkinson and Julian create; you won’t be disappointed.

Can’t resist (Gime me what I need)

When I first heard the intro, I immediately thought of Sade‘s smash hit ‘Smooth Operator’ as typical cocktail bar music. Thankfully, it doesn’t last very long before a brutal guitar riff crashes in to destroy it. Nyah and Julian share vocals once again. The instrumental middle part dispels any lingering cocktail bar vibes and takes us back to the battlefields of heavy metal festivals until the song simply fades out.

Walk Away

The guitars strum along in the best outlaw tradition: wanted dead or alive. The first verses build up tension until it reaches breaking point, which happens about halfway through the song. I certainly won’t be walking away while listening to this fine tune.

Look at us now

It’s time for Tom Fenn to start the song with his drums. Then the guitars and Julian’s vocals take over. It is one of Interceptor’s fastest songs and showcases a powerful collaboration between all the instruments, led by Becky Baldwin‘s driving bassline. Sadly, it’s shorter than I’d hoped, but of course not every song can be six or seven minutes long. So, here I am, repeating the song again and again because I can’t get enough of it!

DTR

The very powerful and aggressive guitars at the beginning give way to the vocalists once more. They and the whole band are ready to rock ‘n’ roll all night, every night. Do you know what DTR stands for? I do, and it’s not “Data Transfer Rate”… 😉

Undistilled

What springs to mind when you read the word ‘undistilled’? I thought of whisky that was too young and very fresh. I was very wrong. This is far from a drinking song. In fact, it’s probably the most emotional song by Fury, with lyrics that are almost heartbreaking. It is, of course, a slow yet powerful song with exceptional instrumental parts. The way the track is built up lets you dream away, and this time the length of nearly six minutes is just perfect.

What is left to say?

I experienced a great metal album by five outstanding musicians. I’m not revealing any secrets when I say that I’m a big fan of Becky, and to me she is one of the most complete metal musicians alive. Her bass playing is certainly top-notch. But Julian’s clear, high vocals are no less impressive. He and Tom form a very good, unique double guitar team that is absolutely on par with those of our heroes during the golden age of NWOBHM. Tom plays the drums with great precision and is the rhythmic backbone of the band. Last but not least, I need to mention Nyah’s fantastic vocals, which take Fury’s sound to an even higher level. She simply does a great job.
