Rock & Metal Day’z 2024 – Here We Were

Saturday

After a breakfast on the infield or campsite it is time for the first band today. At noon, Morbid Approach enter the stage with their funny Glam Metal show. It is quite hot, but their vocalist refuses to take off his leather jacket. Well, no pain, no gain, sweat reigns anyway.

Blessed Child take over with their groovy traditional metal with Thrash influences. I wonder, were the musicians always take the energy when it is so hot and there is more or less no shade.

As a result of this sun and heat overdose, Thunder And Lightning follow. Don’t worry, it is no weather disaster but screaming vocals, tons of riffs, shredded solos and pounding drums from Berlin.

You wanted it, you got Wanted Inc. It is the second band of Mysterica’s vocalist Flo Schmöller. Their fresh Thrash-Metal is the right sound for an early afternoon and tea- or better beer-time.

Disput with their interpretation of typical Deutschrock teach a lesson about the sense and meaning of a dispute. There is more behind it than just verbal attacks with the support of screaming guitars.

We welcome a band on stage who had to miss out on last year’s festival in the very last second. They made their way down to Oschersleben from Denmark. Welcome Grumpynators! After their fulminant set I understand why a band like Volbeat is regarded as metal in Germany but only as mainstream Pop in Denmark. Grumpynators are the real deal in this case. And for a diversity of instruments, they come along with an acoustic double bass.

If you think, Motörhead is dead since Lemmy passed away, Volter convince you of the opposite. Volter don’t cover Motörhead, that would be too easy. No, they have written their own Motörhead-songs as if it is a metal-genre itself. And they really sound like the new Motörhead, raw, brutal, and mean!

The Co-headliner of Saturday is a premiere for Rock & Metal Day’z. It is the first time, an American band rocks the stage. To be more precise, it is a Brazilian band, and its name is Nervosa. After facing some line-up changes in the past, guitarist Prika is back to lead vocals where she started. And she does a very good job in this new and old role. It is a great Thrash-Metal show.

They already arrived the day before and joined the audience to watch the other bands. Now they stand on the other side of the pit, one meter higher and “Unleash The Beast” as the headliner. Burning Witches rule for the next 90 minutes. And how they rule! Precise guitar and bass riffs, thunderous drums, and perfect vocals, which remind me of R. J. Dio, find together to a sound somewhere between Judas Priest and Iron Maiden combining the best of both bands.

And after the last note is played, the last t-shirt is sold at the merch, it is time for the crew’s after show-party in the backstage area… Members of the crew and bands and guests party altogether. Burning Witches join in and celebrate the festival’s end with us. Tomorrow is another day, live for tonight!
