Friday
After a cold and short night, the second day started very relaxed for those who were not involved with preparing breakfast, coffee and food for crew and guests from the camp grounds. Plenty of time for some bull riding for the audience, meanwhile more and more bands arrived. At 14:00 Wolfs Moon opened the second day.
Wolfs Moon
Melodic-Power-Heavy-Rock from Helmstedt. Wolfs Moon keyboarder also is their vocalist so we were surprised with keyboards fronting the stage. Interesting, how much you can do with a stationary keyboard though! A cool band with an interesting approach. They were the perfect opener to wake up the late risers.
Out The Mouse
Do you know German kids-TV-show “Die Sendung mit der Maus”? That was the first thought which came to my mind when I read the band name. Does “Schlagermetalpunk” fit to their funny music? I think it does! We saw four experienced musicians of a relatively young band, playing together for less than two years. Located near Salzwedel they had a far shorter travel than the next band.
Fire Rose
Not only are they our most beloved Swiss guys of the world, not only did they convince with their rousing show. No, they also donated more than 300.- € to M.A.DE. for kids which Fire Rose collected during their shows in March! THANK YOU! Their double lead-guitar driven traditional metal sound and the outstanding vocals are the heart of their music. Bass and drums are its core, by the way, it was the first show for their new drummer Simon Sutter in Germany and I think he liked it. Fire Rose have understood Rock and Roll and how to party. Arriving a day earlier and remaining with the audience after their slot speaks for itself, not to mention the after show party in the backstage area. By the way, save the date, Fire Rose will release their second album on September 8th, you can find more info here.
Donations
HMFC Old Metal Berlin, Odens Söner HMC 1993, Sons Of Distortion
Don’t get it wrong. Donation is not another band but still a kind of surprise act. HMFC Old Metal Berlin, Odens Söner HMC 1993 and Sons Of Distortion, three befriended metal clubs collected and donated “some money” for M.A.DE. for kids. The photos are self-explaining and I can’t say much more than thank you again! The club’s members are the perfect examples of hard shell, soft core! I love them.
The surprise donation by Heiko Kröber
And there was the one fine falla, Heiko Kröber… On Saturday afternnon Dreas Horn, our president asked me if I can come backstage for something special. What should I say, Heiko collected money on his birthday bash and donated it to M.A. De. for kids at the festival. Not only a few € but a total sum of 500.- €!!! Man, that’s grrreeeeaaat!!!! THANK YOU dude!!!
Mysterica
More or less the house band of RMD’z. Their front man Flo and guitarist Asso are members of the festival crew, Flo as booker and responsible for the bands, Asso as stage hand. Besides that, Mysterica played a wonderful show, mainly focused on Metallica’s first album Kill ‘em All. Sound wise there was no difference to the original band and if there was, then because Mysterica were technically better. Close your eyes and you hear James Hetfield at his best – but it is “just” Flo. The other three members don’t stand back in any case. Metallica at its finest – Mysterica!
Act of Creation
Next on the list were Act Of Creation, female fronted Melodic Death Thrash Metal from Siegen. They performed a very intensive and convincing show with Jess’ outstanding vocals. Growling or clean vocals are no problem for her. This and drifting guitar sound make them a very impressive band. We can only hope to hear and see more of them in the future.
Motorjesus
The Headliner on Friday faced a problem at arrival. Their drummer went ill while travelling and needed to go to the hospital immediately. Sh*t happens in the truest sense of the word. There was no time and no chance to find a substitute so shortly before the show. So Motorjesus had to make the decision, to cancel the show, or use a drum computer, even if it meant a loss of quality. They decided for the latter for the good of it. It would somehow have made no sense to drive all the way from Mönchengladbach to Oschersleben for nothing but a sick drummer. Their personal Jesus jumped in and mimicked as drummer along the drum computer. Motorjesus played a lovely set in best NWOBHM traditions combined with their own unique style.
Knife
First of all, congratulations for being signed by Napalm Records. Second, congratulations for a fantastic after midnight show. 180% pure energy and Black Speed Metal. Knife were the closer of Friday and waiting for their show was indeed more than worth it. I just wished, more audience had the same energy as the band but as their vocalist Benni told me afterwards, drenched in his sweat “That’s what we always do, we always give 120%, no matter if 5 people or 5000 are watching us!” As I said, they gave 180% and Napalm has done well signing them, they are worth it. Now let’s wait for the album later the year which will review for sure.
