Mysterica – Teeth Of Lamb – Ravenfield

New Year’s Bash Vol. 1

Eventhall Airport Obertraubling, January 13th 2024

What is better than a concert of legends on a Friday night? Exactly, another concert with three more outstanding bands on the very next day. So after a day of recovering from the night before and some sight-seeing in Regensburg together with friends, we make our way to Obertraubling, more exactly Eventhall Airport. for the next show. In the audience we meet some familiar faces, seems, they have moved there together with us…

Ravenfield, finally

Together we move on to Ravenfield. I missed them last month because Ravenfield had to cancel their show due to the illness of vocalist Polo. Thank The Highest being he has recovered from it and they can play their show with full force. Ravenfield themselves describe their music as Dark Rock. It is difficult to compare them to other bands though. It would just not give them justice.

Dark but catchy

Polo’s vocals are dark and powerful. The melodies are melancholic and heavy. But there still is a catchiness, not as if you’ve already heard it somewhere, but as if you want to hear it again. And again, and again in a loop. Give Ravenfield’s recent album “Pain” a listen, it is more than worth it! And pay attention for their live shows!

Teeth Of Lamb

The middle part falls to Teeth Of Lamb. Friends of mine who saw them a few days earlier in support of Wanted Inc. during their album release show, were very impressed and recommended them. Thus I already am more than curious what comes now!

Noise and  Distortion = Finest Thrash

I make it short, a lot of noise, a lot of distortion, a lot of finest Death Thrash Speed Metal. Last time, I experienced such an explosion of primal force might have been when good old Venom conquered the world. Even though their music is very different to Ravenfield’s Dark Rock, they fit together perfectly, because Teeth Of Lamb build the bridge to tonight’s headliner.

Mysterica

It is no mystery that Mysterica are dedicated to one band of the Big Four of Thrash Metal. I don’t talk about Slayer, Anthrax or Megadeth, I talk about Metallica. For quite a few years, it is the mission of Mysterica to choose one specific album of Metallica to play it in full length. Last year they decided for “Kill ’Em All”, the debut album which turned 40, but tonight Mysterica play a more than two hours long set. So of course there are more songs from more albums to be heard and celebrated. Mysterica even play songs, about which vocalist Flo Schmoeller said a few hours before “Never ever” – surprise, surprise but according to James Bond, Never say never….

Perfection

The brilliance of Mysterica’s play is excellent. The sound is perfect. The looks of the members of Mysterica is different to Metallica but who cares? No one. It is pure Thrash Metal from the golden era of Thrash, nothing more but also nothing less. I have already seen Mysterica quite a few times, for example at Rock  Metal Day’z, but never a full set and never before as good as they are today. It really is a perfect New Year’s Bash! That’s what counts, nothing else matters.

What a Metal Weekend!

Counting together both days, I saw six bands, three each day. None was a downfall; none wasn’t worth the efforts. That is what Rock and Roll, Metal and live music is all about. Go out and see the bands. It doesn’t matter if you know them, ever heard of them or if they are your favourite band anyway. They all deserve the attention and audience which makes live music a unique experience.

Enjoy And Celebrate

And I tell you a secret, you can repeat it again and again. It is no “Once in a life time” thing to do, it is the metal way of life. You can see other bands, other venues, other people around you or go there with the same bunch of friends. They all don’t bite, they enjoy and celebrate together. Be part of the metal community, the metal way of life. By the way, the date for New Year’s Bash Vol. 2 already is confirmed:
