Today we will have a look at the Ukrainian metal project Protydiya founded by Vitalii Palahniuk in 2018. After two full length albums it is time for the brand new three tracks EP.
Unfathomed Gradients
Wandering in the Whirl
The first song captures your attention immediately and takes you on a journey into the mysteries of life. Close your eyes and dream away. You will explore whole new worlds and universes. You will experience their birth, their existence and their dearth. “Wandering in the Whirl” needs no lyrics, the instruments do the talking. Just check out the play through video and will understand what I mean.

The Mystery of Re-creation
Being a historical re-creator myself I am very touched by the title of the song and have a special point of view. I see ancient times passing by, soldiers on their march to war, battle, death, cathedrals being build and broken down again. Sailing ships discover new worlds, archeologists discover remains of long-time gone high cultures. Re-enactors re-create these times again and present them to the modern generation.
.
Whisper of Spring
Do you know Vivaldi’s Four Seasons? Here we have the metal version of Spring. As with the previous two songs there are no lyrics. It is all instrumental only and the instruments describe the whole mood, atmosphere and topic of the song better than words could. Take time and listen to it in detail, there is so much to explore in those few minutes, it is nearly unbelievable.
I sometimes have the feeling, nowadays everything must be called “progressive” even though it is just average music for the masses. “Unfathomed Gradients” is a nice effort to bring progressive metal to a level which is different to this “mainstream” progressive metal. Give it a chance and check it out, you won’t regret it.
Due to its shortness of just three songs we don’t rate the EP though.
