Nachtblut – Todschick Part II

– Manchmal kommen sie wieder –

Tonight, 12th February 2026, just before the escalating final of street carnival, we meet at Colos-Saal for something completely different. Colos-Saal is a club with a capacity of around 600 people, and is located very centrally in Aschaffenburg, close to the railway station. We experience two remarkable, even though very different German bands in a nearly sold-out concert tonight. Welcome to the tour kick-off of Nachtblut‘s Todschick Tour Part II! By the way, as usual we don’t post the set lists due to the early stage of the tour.

.

Asenblut and the Edda

Asenblut from Göttingen acts as opener and support band for Nachtblut’s Toschick tour. Asenblut’s style is often described as Melodic Death Metal or Pagan Metal. This describes their brute, driving sound quite well. The name comes from the Nordic-Germanic deities of the Aesir [Asen], which we also find in the Edda saga. Accordingly, many lyrics refer to this topic, but beyond that fantasy literature, pop culture and socio-cultural topics are also covered.

.

Tetzel-Metal

At precisely 20:00, the lights dim for the first time tonight. Asenblut’s musicians enter the stage, which is protected by Asenblut‘s Viking shields that will be used later in the show. Tim ‘Tetzel’ joins his bandmates and waves his battle axe microphone. What follows is about 45 minutes of the finest pagan metal — or is it viking metal? Or teutonic metal? Or is it just Tetzel?  From the outset, it’s clear that not everyone has come for Nachtblut only. The audience is eating out of his hands. There’s no doubt that Tetzel knows how to be a good entertainer and showman.

.

Merch and Mead

After Asenblut‘s set, he promises to return soon to meet his fans, friends and supporters at the merchandise stand in the next room. He’s not a star, no stardom, just a nice guy who’s happy to chat, take photos and hang around for a few minutes. Ah, and don’t forget to get a bottle of Asenblut mead at the merch. It is not as sweet as the usual, cheap stuff but of a really good and tasty quaility.

.

Nachtblut and Controversity

The set of Asenblut is followed by a very quick changeover of the stage, including the drums. Many bands share drums on tour to save space and luggage, but Asenblut play with double bass drums and Nachtblut with a single bass drum. And then it gets dark again, the sounds of the intro echo, fog wafts across the stage, and everything is ready for Nachtblut. They are well know for their controverse and provoking lyrics.

.

Not for the mainstream

What the superficial average listener considers contempt for humanity is in reality a well-placed dose of sarcasm and irony, which is intended to provoke thought. Today’s modern man already walks through the world with too much complacency and then naturally feels attacked, instead of critically reflecting on his own behaviour and changing it for the better. That’s what bands like Nachtblut are there for!

.

Pure adrenaline

As with the previous band, the musicians enter the stage one by one, and the first heavy riffs are already played when Nachtblut vocalist Askeroth takes control. Nachtblut’s white make-up and steampunk/Gothic inspired stage outfits amaze the audience once again. It must have been similar during KISS‘s early shows in the mid-seventies, when they were young, wild and hungry. However, Nachtblut are more like KISS on adrenaline, with more sophisticated lyrics, of course.

.

Like a clockwork

Drummer Skoll and guitarist Greif perform slightly in the background, while  bassist AblaZ takes on a significant part of the entertainment, acting as a kind of second frontman. Nevertheless, they are as precise as clockwork. It is fascinating how the drummer propels the band forward. He builds up a lot of tension and pressure for the benefit of the show.

.

No spoilers allowed

After about 65 minutes, Nachtblut leave the stage after ‘the last song’, only to return for another 30 minutes and six more songs. And, in case you were wondering, Tetzel joins Nachtblut for one song of course — but I won’t tell you which one! Otherwise I would spoil the surprise!

.

Find out yourself

In terms of changes since Todschick Part I, yes, there may have been some, but I won’t reveal any more. Buy a ticket, go to the concert and find out for yourself if you’re feeling curious.

.

The Audience

There is one thing that distinguishes dark and gothic metal concerts from other metal concerts. The audience is less parrot-like colourful, with black in all its variations dominating absolutely, that much is clear! But the visitors are simply better dressed, putting more effort into choosing their concert outfits than the average concert-goer. Simple jeans and plain T-shirts with battle vests or hoodies are in the minority. I love this particular subculture for that!

Metal Way Of Life

We were able to experience two outstandingly good bands in a nearly sold-out venue today. This is what we live for, this is the Metal Way Of Life pure and simple. That’s how it should be, that’s how it has to be. Let’s keep our lifestyle alive, go to concerts, buy CDs, merch, meet friends and “your” stars, and acquaintances, get to know and love the bands. The couch is for others.

.

Does anyone know the guy to the right? A hint, beside some lovely music, he also offers some excellent cherry-mead, check the merch-pics above!

Please buy merch and physical music or downloads  from the bands official sources and don’t stream music for free because it steals your artists’ income.
