Mysterica and Major Overdrive

Flo’s 40th Birthday Madness

What could be better than having your own birthday concert if you’re a true metalhead? Especially if you have your own band? Exactly, giving your own concert for your friends! This happened this weekend at the VAZ Burglengenfeld. The birthday boy in this case was none other than Flo Schmöller, singer of Mysterica and Wanted Inc. He simply invited his friends, buddies, musicians to a concert of three bands: Mysterica, Major Overdrive and Ravenfield. Unfortunately Ravenfield had to cancel their show due to Corona problems. F*ck, it is still not over and we have to pay attention. Thanks to the Supreme Being and more experience with this disease, we are much more relaxed than two years ago.

The Guests

A large part of the invited friends and audience were members of M.a.De. for Kids, who made their way from all over Germany to this cosy venue. M.a.De. for Kids is the charity behind the Rock & Metal Day’z near Oschersleben. Of course, they also brought along additional guests and friends, so that at least the venue was well filled. I’ve seen official concerts with much smaller audiences.

Mysterica

Let’s come to the first of the two bands, Mysterica. The band was formed in 2015 and is a five piece combo, two guitars, bass, drums, vocals. No keys or synths for a good reason. The reason has names, some are Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammet, Trujillo, better known as Metallica. Mysterica follow their path as one of their best German cover bands. Their focus is not the show or the looks, but the pure and essential music of Metallica.

“Today I decide the setlist”

Although they often play complete albums, this time Mysterica played a setlist that was put together from the whole range of Metallica’s releases according to Flo’s wishes: “Today I decide the setlist”… What we got as his guests was a package of evergreens without being a mainstream set. Looks like this guy really has good taste. Mysterica once again impressed with their precise playing and outstanding vocals. There are a lot of original bands of lesser quality than these five guys. Well done, party on!

Gifts ‘n’ drinks

Before, between and after the two bands there was plenty of time to chat with Flo, band members, guests, old and new faces, for some gifts and of course drinks.

Major Overdrive

After a short while Major Overdrive entered the stage. They are a classic trio in the style of bands like Rush or ZZ Top; bass/vocals, guitar, drums. Major Overdrive are an original band and presented songs from their EP ‘Stories Of Outer Rime’ and their forthcoming album. Their influences range from the aforementioned bands to Def Leppard, some good old 80’s metal and 70’s hard rock. It is worth paying attention to the release in January, there is a new force coming up.

It was a cool idea

I really liked the idea of the birthday concert. It is unusual, but certainly a perfect way to celebrate your birthday with your friends if you are a musician. And I liked that it was really a family reunion turned into a metal show.
