It’s one of those days you’ve been waiting for a long time. Frozen Crown, a band I have been following for several years, are coming around on their first headlining tour. So far, I have only enjoyed them as a support band, thus the live experience was spoiled by the shortness of the set. Now it is time for War Hearts live. Check out our album review and the interview with founder Federico Mondelli as well.

First: Lutharo
The first band of this April evening at Colos-Saal/Aschaffenburg is Lutharo from Canada. Lutharo is “female fronted” and consists of Krista Shipperbottom on clean and growled vocals, Victor Bucur on guitar, Chris Pacey on bass and last but not least Cory Hofing on drums. Their style is perhaps best described as a wild mix of melodic death, thrash and power metal. Long story short, here are some photos of their set.
.
I know some brilliant musicians from Canada, first of all my dear friends Lindsay Schoolcraft and Gaia Guarda, now I can add another impressive band to my list of favourite Canadians.
.
Second: Fellowship
The second band on the bill comes from Europe, from the little island between Ireland and continental Europe, usually known as England 😉 Judging by their name and outfit, I would have guessed that they come from Middle-earth’s The Shire: Fellowship from Harwich. Fellowship consists of Matthew Corry on vocals, Sam Browne on guitar, Brad Wosko on guitar and Cal Tuffen on drums It means, the live bass player is a hired gun if I am right, he does a brilliant job as if he were a regular member.
.
They describe their sound as melodic power metal and to quote the band, “Hopefully the music makes up for the silly costumes”… Anyway, judge for yourself.
.
Finally: Frozen Crown
The third and final band tonight is of course Frozen Crown, the electrifying power metal sextet from Italy. Frozen Crown consists of Giada “Jade” Etro on vocals, Federico Mondelli on guitar and vocals, Fabiola Bellomo on guitar, Francesco Zof on bass, Niso Tomasini on drums and Alessia Lanzone on guitar. So three guitars, three men, three women and they like to call themselves a family and not just members of the same band.
.
All six of them
As some of you may have known, it was unclear, if singer Jade was able to make it in time for the full set, part of the set or in the worst case not at all due to the start of an important medical treatment in Italy on the very same day. So there was a “secret second set list” for such cases. Thanks to the Highest Being, good odds and a hell driver in the person of the tour manager, Jade made it in time to open with “War Hearts”.
.
Metal therapy
That was a really warm and impressive emotional welcome when she entered the stage. From now on the six outstanding musicians ruled the stage as if there were no problems at all. Metal seems to be the right therapy! Metal Health rules!
.
The best you can get
With six musicians on stage it is difficult to concentrate on one of them, especially when they are all so skilled. I don’t think I’m talking nonsense when I say that this guitar trio is the best you can get in metal. These three are the future of metal, while it is time for the heroes of our youth to say goodbye sooner or later.
.
A heartbreaking story
Because the tour is still going on, I won’t give the setlist played here, just the “worst case setlist”, but the story Federico told us before “Ice Dragon” was played was heartbreaking. You might have heard it too and experienced something similar – as I did. It made me think about the meaning of life in many cases…
.
Drum perfection
Every good show must come to an end and so did this fantastic evening. It didn’t end without Niso’s drum solo experience, yes, experience. Most of the time drum solos can be very boring if they are too long or lack a sense of harmony. Not this time, we enjoyed a drum solo that built up like a firework with a real finale grande. Forget the big names of drummers who have been playing “the same old stuff for 25 years”. Like the guitarists, Niso is part of the promising future of metal together with bass and vocals of Frozen Crown.
.
Meet the musicians
After the show, the one or other member of the three bands has spend some time at the shared merch stall for a quick chat, an autograph or a photo. By the way, during the other bands’ sets, they sometimes joined the crowd to party together instead of sitting backstage.
Please recover fully!
Personally, I really hope that Jade’s medical problems will be successfully resolved and that she makes a full recovery. She and the other five members of Frozen Crown are such lovely and likeable people, they deserve nothing less.
.
Pure talent and skills
Generally, I was once again impressed by the skills of all six musicians of Frozen Crown, it still is unbelievable for me, how so much talent can be in one band only. It is impressive how the line-up found together as a bunch of friends who play music together on such a high level.
.
So many impressions!
All this pure talent deserves some more impressions of the show, check the gallery as well!.
