Edge Of Paradise – Prophecy

Today we review Edge Of Paradise‘s new album “Prophecy”, which will be released on 7th March 2025 via Napalm Records. You can pre-order several editions here. It contains ten songs, three of which have already been released as video singles. The style of the LA based band is described as Cinematic Metal by their label Napalm Records, but during my interview with vocalist Margarita Monet last year we came up with “Industrial Cyber Metal” instead. Anyway, it is up to you to find out what the style really is. So here we go with the first song.

Prophecy

Death Note

A short drumbeat opens the song, guitars crash in and the mean and sweet clean vocals take over. The song is not too slow, not too fast, but very tight. “Death Note” is very melodic and catchy. It scrutinises the technological isolation of modern times with the clear message “on the edge of existence, where everything is cold”.

.

Give it to Me (Mind Assassin)

The second song speeds up a bit but remains catchy, complex and melodic. I hear some dramatic moments in the melody and I really like the interesting drum beats and the driving speed changes. It also features Ben V. from Ludovico as additional vocalist. There are “no emotions, no human chains, our union grows inside our veins”.

Prophecy Unbound

We hear the overwhelming sound of melodic double guitar solos as an intro. I bet this song will mesmerise the audience at every live show. It is steaming, driving, powerful, it speeds up and slows down like an unbound wild animal.  It is a true “maze of madness, triumph and bliss where the darkest thoughts found ways to exist”.

.

The Sad Life of a Rose

When you think of roses, you think of anything but a sad life. You think of love and the scent of a sea of flowers, but that is a romantic view, far from reality. Especially “inside the city of steel and sorrow, where the sun forgot to rise”. This is not a sad song, but a thoughtful power ballad that makes you think again about the technological isolation of modern times.

Rogue (Aim for the Kill)

This song was released last year and if I remember correctly, Edge Of Paradise performed it during the European tour in September 2024. To make a long story short, “Rogue” really aims for the kill. It is a killer song by a killer band with killer vocals. A powerful beat leads us through the song and the catchy chorus does its sweet, mean and innocent duty. “And I’ll watch you burn, cause I am the storm”, the storm that aims for the kill.

.

Hear Me

Now it is time for a completely different song. “I just want to be heard in a world so loud.” Exactly for this reason the song is reduced to piano, vocals and a string arrangement. Listen carefully, there is a lot of meaning in the words sung by Margarita. It is almost like a silent cry for help in, here we are again, technological isolation.

The Other Side of Fear

There are always two sides to a coin, and so there is another side to fear. This fear turns out to be an energetic rager, built on pulsating dance beats and a wonderful guitar solo. So at least there is nothing to be afraid of except dancing the night away and “you will rise through a thousand skies, even through the acid tears”.

Martyr (Monster)

Now we are back on the other, the metal side of music, powerful guitars dominate the mid-tempo song. The vocalist declares “I’m the monster you created, monster will I be enough for you” and monster enough is the whole dramatic bow of the song. Once again the instrumentation is very tight and complex. But the real monster is not the song, but the artificial intelligence that takes control of us.

Relive Again

Another song with a slow start. Margarita‘s voice is supported by strings, guitars, bass and drums come in with a kind of marching step. I don’t know where we’re going or where we’ve been, but this atmospheric track takes us to unknown parts of our lives, our souls and our history. “Don’t be afraid to break the chain. Don’t be afraid to feel the pain. Don’t be afraid to look at the endless sky.” Just don’t be afraid and we will overcome the modern influences of technological isolation.

Falling Light

The tenth and final track on “Prophecy” pulls all triggers again. A wonderful sonic carpet of “Falling Light” explodes with Margarita‘s venomous and wicked vocals, enveloping the listener in a sonic Gothic cathedral. Perfection of the instrumentalists complete the symbiosis. “I touched the light that’s falling. You gave me life, now show me. I know the truth is in me” – there can be no other message, no better advice for all of us to overcome our fears.

Almost a Soundtrack

I’ve listened to a masterpiece of music, sophisticated lyrics with a very deep meaning. All the songs are very well arranged. Their complexity is almost unbearable. The use of eight-string guitars was worth the effort and makes sense. When I listened to the album again and again, I had something like a film in my mind. Given that the thread of rage against the Singularity, the moment when humanity loses control of artificial intelligence, runs through “Prophecy”, it would be a perfect soundtrack. Isn’t there a new Star Wars film on the horizon? I can more or less associate all the songs with it in a very positive way. Disney, do you hear me?” 😉.

I wonder how these songs will sound live. The North American metalheads can call themselves lucky. Edge Of Paradise will be touring with Delain and Xandria as soon as the album is released.
